Over 1,500 people died and England plunged into mourning. Steiff paid its respects by honouring England with specially produced black "mourning" bears. Less than 500 of these "mourning" bears were produced exclusively for England in the year of sadness. Clearly touching a chord, they sold out quickly. Today they are some of the most sought after bears in the world.
